Frequently asked questions

At Hawthorne Children’s Dental, we recommend bringing your child in for a dental check-up every six months. Regular visits help us monitor their oral health, provide preventive care, and catch any potential issues early.

If your child experiences a toothache, rinse their mouth with warm water and apply a cold compress to reduce swelling. Contact Hawthorne Children’s Dental as soon as possible for an appointment so we can diagnose and treat the problem promptly.

Encourage good oral hygiene habits at home, such as brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste and flossing daily. We recommend Sonicare toothbrushes and MI paste as great preventive tools that you can use. We offer both of these options in our office! At Hawthorne Children’s Dental, we also provide sealants and fluoride treatments to help protect your child’s teeth from cavities. Regular dental check-ups are key to maintaining a healthy smile.

A pediatric dentist has two to three years of specialty training after dental school, focusing exclusively on the oral health of infants, children, and teens, including those with special health needs. This specialized training allows us to provide care that is tailored to the unique physical and emotional needs of young patients.

You can help prepare your child by maintaining a positive attitude and speaking about the visit in a fun, exciting way. Reading books about visiting the dentist can also help. At our office, we use simple, child-friendly terms and a gentle approach to ensure a positive first experience.
